04/24/2021Qingqing Huang was selected by the WVU Student Chapter of SME as the 2020-2021 WVU Department of Mining Engineering Outstanding Faculty Member.

1/04/2021- Two manuscripts entitled " Phosphatic waste clay: Origin, composition, physicochemical properties, challenges, values and possible remedies – A review" and "Separation of radionuclides from a rare earth-containing solution by zeolite adsorption" have been published in Minerals Engineering and Minerals, respectively. 

10/01/2020- A new project was funded by the United States Department of the Interior's Office of Surface Mining to recover critical minerals from acid mine drainage and its byproducts.

08/20/2020- A manuscript entitled "Exploratory investigation on the use of low-cost alternative media for ultrafine grinding of coal" was accepted for publication by the International Journal of Coal Preparation and Utilization.

08/06/2020- A manuscript entitled "Separation of thorium, uranium, and rare earths from a strip solution generated from coarse coal refuse" was accepted for publication by Hydrometallurgy.

06/14/2020- A new manuscript entitled "Determination of the mass transfer rate constant in a laboratory column flotation using the bubble active surface coefficient" was accepted for publication.

04/24/2020Qingqing Huang was selected by the WVU Student Chapter of SME as the 2019-2020 WVU Department of Mining Engineering Outstanding Faculty Member.

04/24/2020Qingqing Huang was named one of the Outstanding Researchers of the Year/Junior by the Statler College.

04/07/2020Deniz Talan was selected for an Outstanding Merit Fellowship for Continuing Doctoral Students by the Office of Graduate Education and Life at West Virginia University. Congratulations on being selected for this extremely competitive fellowship!

02/27/2020Amir Eskanlou placed second at the 2020 Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division Student Poster Contest, and third at the 2020 Graduate Student Research Poster Contest during the SME Annual Conference and Expo in Phoenix, AZ. Congratulations!

01/01/2020-Qingqing Huang partners on a new research grant to continue the study of rare earth extraction from acid mine drainage.

09/29/2019-A new manuscript entitled "Evaluation of frother types for improved flotation recovery and selectivity" was accepted for publication.

08/16/2019-Qingqing Huang was selected as one of the two recipients of the prestigious SME Freeport-McMoRan Career Development Grant.

07/01/2019-A new manuscript entitled "Activity calculation and phase transformation predication for heavy metals with slag activity calculation model during using electroplating sludge in production of bricks" was accepted for publication.

05/07/2019-A new manuscript entitled "Characterization study of rare earths, yttrium, and scandium from various Colombian coal samples and non-coal lithologies" was accepted for publication.

04/26/2019-A new manuscript entitled "The improvement in properties and environmental safety of fired clay bricks containing hazardous waste electroplating sludge: The role of Na2SiO3" was accepted for publication.

04/13/2019-Deniz Talan received the WVU Mining Engineering Faculty Graduate Award based on her academic performance. Congratulations!

03/30/2019-Two manuscripts entitled "The reuse of waste glass for enhancement of heavy metals immobilization during the introduction of galvanized sludge in brick manufacturing" and "Effects of electroplating sludge introduction on the morphology, mineral phase and porosity evolution of fired clay bricks"were accepted for publication.

11/26/2018-Adewale Adeniji successfully defended his master thesis entitled “Parametric Study of Coal Liberation Behavior Using Silica Grinding Media”. Congratulations!

10/04/2018Qinqing Huang has been selected as the 2018 recipient of SME's Mineral &  Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) Outstanding Young Engineer Award.

09/21/2018Qinqing Huang is named for the second time as a distinguished SME Henry Krumb Lecturer (2018-2019).

08/03/2018Qingqing Huang partners on a research grant from the United States Department of Energy's Morgantown Energy Technology Laboratory on the recovery of rare earth elements from coal mine drainage.

04/14/2018Qingqing Huang received the SME Student Chapter Officer Award given by the mining students at WVU for her superior dedication to the Mining profession and a challenging atmosphere for student growth and development that she has offered.

03/26/2018- A new manuscript entitled " Liberation and release of rare earth minerals from Middle Kittanning, Fire Clay, and West Kentucky No 13 coal sources" was accepted for publication in Powder Technology.

02/27/2018Chad Martin took the top honor in the Undergraduate Student Poster Contest by the 2018 SME's Mineral and Metallurgical Processing (MPD) Division.

12/19/2017-Qingqing Huang partners on a research grant from the United States Department of Energy's  National Energy Technology Laboratory on the pilot-scale testing of an integrated circuit for the extraction of REEs from coal and coal byproducts.

12/15/2017- A new manuscript entitled " Evaluation of a novel coal flotation improvement approach with the addition of hydrophobic magnetic particles" was accepted for publication in International Journal of Coal Preparation and Utilization.

09/15/2017- Chad Martin joined the Minerals and Metallurgical Processing Research Group as an undergraduate research assistant.

08/11/2017Qingqing Huang cooperates with National University of Colombia on a research project to develop pioneering study on rare earths in Colombia.

08/11/2017Qingqing Huang joins the Department of Mining Engineering at West Virginia University as an assistant professor.
